Join us for a Juvenile Sea Turtle Release, an interactive and educational excursion for the whole family. Meet endangered sea turtles up close and learn about our turtle rescue and rehabilitation efforts, including critically endangered hawksbill sea turtles. Then it’s time to adopt and name your green sea turtle in our Fish Hospital where we take some final measurements and weigh your new best friend. All parties, including your new turtle, will then be welcomed aboard one of our boats for a ride out to a designated release point a few miles offshore. Once in the release zone, you’ll be able to hand release your turtle into the Bahamian sea to help repopulate the wild population.
Every year our green sea turtles' nest on designated beaches at Atlantis and lay hundreds of eggs that hatch a few months later. To support the population of sea turtles and increase their chance of survival in the wild, Atlantis’ aquarists raise some of these babies until they reach about 2 years old. Green sea turtles are listed as an endangered species according to the World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red Lis of Threatened Species and protected by the government of The Bahamas. Atlantis has bred, rescued, and released more than 7,500 endangered sea turtles as part of our continuing commitment to marine conservation and education.
Participation in this program supports the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to saving sea species and their extraordinary habitats throughout The Bahamas and surrounding Caribbean Sea.
