A Win Worth Celebrating
Green Sea Turtles Make a Comeback

Your Memories Made a Difference

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re celebrating you, too. Each time you swam with our dolphins, snorkeled The Ruins or joined a behind-the-scenes marine program at Atlantis, you helped fund research, habitat protection, rescue efforts and education programs, including those centered on sea turtles. A portion of every marine interaction supports the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation and its on-the-ground work in The Bahamas.

A Win Worth Celebrating

One of the largest sea turtle species on the planet, green sea turtles were once pushed to the brink due to overharvesting, habitat loss, egg poaching and accidental capture in fishing gear. But thanks to long-term protection efforts around the world, including in The Bahamas:

  • Nesting beaches have been safeguarded

  • Seagrass beds (their primary food source) are being protected and restored

  • By-catch prevention efforts have improved

  • Local communities and visitors are learning to coexist sustainably with wildlife

The result: a slow but steady population rebound, allowing experts to confidently change the green sea turtle’s conservation status. This isn’t the end of their recovery journey, but it’s an encouraging reminder that conservation works. And that even small actions, done together, can create big waves of change.

Thank you for being part of the Atlantis family.
