Saturday, April 25 is World Veterinary Day, and we’d like to introduce our two exceptional veterinarians: Dr. Deandra Delancey-Milfort and Dr. Julianna DeHaas.
Dr. Delancey-Milfort previously worked with The Bahamas Ministry of Agriculture, where she led inspections of marine mammal programs, including Dolphin Cay at Atlantis. She is the current president of The Bahamas Medical Veterinary Association.
Dr. DeHaas came to Atlantis from the U.S. Virgin Islands, fulfilling what she describes as a lifelong goal. “Working at Atlantis is a dream come true,” she says. “I actually wrote it down as one of my life goals growing up.”

A Normal-ish Day for our Vets
The doctors begin each day with rounds, checking on dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles, rays, fish, and critically endangered species like the smalltooth sawfish. They have close relationships with our animal behaviorists to monitor each animal’s health and wellbeing. Fun fact: they also take care of Atlantis’ K-9 security units! Alongside veterinary technicians, lab technicians, nutrition consultants, and experienced aquatic animal specialists, the team delivers comprehensive, collaborative care across the resort.

When the Unexpected Happens
With an on-site animal hospital and rehabilitation facilities, Atlantis serves as the “911” for rescued animals. Even before the animal arrives, the team shifts quickly into action, preparing for rapid assessment and acute treatment should it be needed. Additionally, Atlantis has The Bahamas’ only large-animal surgical suite, where the doctors perform advanced procedures alongside specialized consultants.
On World Veterinary Day, we celebrate their expertise, compassion and commitment to every animal in their care.
