Opened in 2007, Dolphin Cay is one of the worldβs largest and most sophisticated marine-mammal habitats. We opened just in time to take in 17 stranded dolphins and 10 sea lions whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Since that time, weβve become a safe haven for injured and stranded animals. We built the Caribbeanβs first animal rehabilitation hospital and today, we maintain an on-site laboratory, pharmacy and operating suite. Once the animals recover, our goal is to return as many as possible to the wild β typically 90% of those we care for are successfully returned.
Our animals are cared for around the clock by a highly trained team of marine-mammal specialists and veterinarians. Dolphin Cay is accredited by β and works closely with β many international wildlife organizations, including the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA), and the International Marine Animal Trainers' Association (IMATA). Through partnerships with world-renowned veterinary schools, marine and atmospheric science schools, marine laboratories, and many global agencies and facilities, Dolphin Cay helps increase global knowledge about marine life, which contributes to their health and wellbeing in the wild.
Every visit to Dolphin Cay supports the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, creating and promoting solutions for a wide range of marine conservation challenges, from coral reef degradation to marine species in decline.
