HOW WE KEEP OUR MARINE LIFE HEALTHY AND WELL FED

At Atlantis Paradise Island we understand the key to healthy marine life starts with what they eat. With that in mind, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond to provide a highly nutritional diet for all our aquatic animals.

feeding time
tailored diet

Individual feeding schedules, amounts and types of food are dependent upon the specific species of fish, shark, or marine mammal, as well as each animal’s growth rate, age, activity level and other unique factors.

High quality fare

We feed about 1000 pounds per day of high-quality food to our marine mammals. Sea lions receive capelin, herring, and squid. The bottlenose dolphins receive capelin, herring, pinfish, and mullet. The last two are particularly high in C17 saturated fatty acid, an important micro-nutrient for this species.

special menu

We supply special diets for some of our more delicate animals like jellyfish, turtles, parrotfish and seahorses. Prepared dry foods that have been enriched with vitamins and minerals are offered as well as live foods.

spread of seafood

Fish, Turtles and Invertebrates are fed a diverse variety of seafood, including shrimp, squid, krill, sardines, clams, minnows, and jacks.

The importance of nutrition
At Atlantis, we take animal nutrition seriously, as we know it’s vital to ensuring healthy marine life. That’s why all the food we use to feed the animals in our world-renowned habitats is the highest quality, sourced specifically for the best nutritional needs for each animal. It’s locally bought or flown in from the U.S. and prepped in one of our dedicated fish kitchens for our marine life. Our staff rises bright and early every morning to sort through and distribute the food to each species. If you’re lucky to see our trainers during feeding time they’ll be more than happy to tell you more.
