For his extraordinary service and commitment to helping communities in crisis, Chef Andrés was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden in January 2025. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor.
In addition to his groundbreaking culinary achievements, Chef Andrés' efforts in disaster relief have earned him national and international recognition. During the devastating LA fires in January 2025, Chef Andrés and his organization, World Central Kitchen (WCK), provided food relief to those affected. They set up meal distribution centers across Southern California, served free meals to first responders and evacuees, collaborated with local food trucks and restaurants to ensure hot meals reached those in need, and donated essential supplies.
